2025 Mad Cave Talent Search Colorist Submission Inks by Antonio Fuso.
This was a lot of fun!
I made some colored thumbnails to capture the mood. I knew the story needed a monochromatic scheme, a more serious tone, but I tried to test the limits of that concept. It ended up a bit lemony, but I think it still works. Later, I looked at the published original, and they went for a similar, more atmospheric blue line. Another concern of mine was the division of the planes within the panels. Sometimes, with such bold and confident inks, it's up to the colorist to define the focus of the scene. I tried not to be too invasive in that sense.
